Someone in RP wrote this wonderful piece on how he tackle this question. Its really damn true and interesting.

What kind of symbol(s) would you equate with love? Explain.

I would equate the colour red, and a shape of a heart with love. It is true that this is the most traditional symbol of love but my intepretation of the symbol would not be so traditional. The colour red, depicts both strong passion and feelings, yet anger. This shows that love can double sided, where one side, you can full heartedly contribute yourself to the relationship, but on the other hand, there are times anger will come, and the furious red colour would be the best, to describe such feelings.

The heart, depicts symmetry and complimentary. Both sides are equal, and should not be dominant against one another. Yet, they compliment each other, and without each other, the love cannot go on. The heart would be the best, to describe love at its peak.
